Hip Hop has always resided at the intersections of rhythm rhyme and culture, and the origins of such intersections took shape during the early 1970s in the borough of the Bronx in New York City.

The rhythm evolved through the blissful dance grooves emanating from the turntables of deejay Clive Campbell, professionally known as DJ Kool Herc, who is considered to have been the first to isolate and play back the most infectious passages and transitional breaks from popular dance records of the day, which resulted in an effective dance frenzy among his listening audience.

His presentation, which is considered the foundation of hip hop, provided a feast for the ears, hands and feet of responding African American and Latino dancers who adapted and honed Kool Herc’s beats, as well as the efforts of other DJs such as Grandmaster Flowers, Grandmaster Wizzard Theodore, Grandmaster Caz and Grandmaster Flash, into a dynamic new art form.

Soon there appeared a host of brilliant wordsmiths, otherwise known as rappers, from all five boroughs of New York City, as well as other states across the nation, pioneering artists such as the Sugarhill Gang, Curtis Blow, Afrika Bambaataa and Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five, whose socially conscious record "The Message" signaled the potential relevance of hip hop as a cultural force.

Over the past few decades, the genre has showcased scores of chart-topping artists and has attracted tremendous favorability beyond the borders of the United States, where international response has ensconced it among the top of the world's most prominent forms of popular music.

This eye-catching hoodie captures the energy of hip hop, with locking wrenches representing break dancers, as well as the letters HI and HO paired with wrench-shaped microphones as the letter P, all creating the words HIP HOP. This hoodie is stylish and comfortable through all seasons. Celebrate New York City and hip hop with a soon to be wardrobe favorite.
